There are a number of ways to travel to the resort once you book tickets for Alton Towers.

By Car
Alton Towers Resort can be found between the M1 and the M6, with the attraction clearly signposted from both motorways. Depending on your direction of travel, the nearest motorway exits are as follows:
M1 Northbound – Junction 23a
M1 Southbound – Junction 28
M6 Northbound – Junction 15
M6 Southbound – Junction 16
Guests are advised to drive with care, as there are many walkers, horse riders and cyclists in and around the area, with the roads themselves being very thin in places.
By Train
You can also travel to Alton Towers Resort by train.
Uttoxeter train station is the closest station to Alton Towers, located 10 miles from the attraction. Other nearby stations are Stoke on Trent station (15 miles from the attraction) and Derby train station (25 miles from the attraction).
By Bus
Alton Towers Resort is served by the X41, a daily bus service from Stafford to the resort.
The bus departs once a day from 9.25am from Stafford railway station and the route includes Weston and Uttoxeter on the way to Alton towers. There are two X41 buses available for the return journey, which leave Alton Towers at 15.45 (to Uttoxeter only) and 17.30 (to Stafford, via Uttoxeter).
There is also free coach parking available for school trips travelling on a private hire bus and private parties.
The bus times provided are estimates and can vary during the year. All guests need to check before they travel.
Once you're at the attraction you can then take The Monorail from the car park to the entrance of the theme park. The Monorail opens daily at 9am (subject to operational restrictions) and closes one hour after the rides close.
You can also walk from the car park to the entrance of the theme park. Depending on where you have park it can take the following approximate times to get to the entrance:
A,B,C - 10-15 Minutes
D,E,F,G,H - 18-22 Minutes
J,M,N,O,P - 22-28 Minutes
