Venue access information (Story House, Chester)Updated 7 days ago

As we are located in Chester City centre, we do not have a dedicated car park.
The closest carpark is New Market Parking – 200 metres from the nearest exit.
There is free on-street parking/car park for blue badge holders on Hamilton Place and Goss Street (4 hours max) – c.300 metres away.


Entrance

We have two entrances to the Storyhouse building located on Hunter Street. Our main entrance has ramp access and automatic doors that open by pressing a button


Wheelchair Access

The whole building, including the library, theatre, cinema and Garret, is accessible via lift, with wheelchair access to all areas.

There are accessible toilets are available on every floor, with a Changing Places toilet on the ground floor. We also have gender-neutral toilets available across multiple levels.

 

Assistance Dogs

Assistance Dogs are welcome throughout the building and at all events.

 

Hearing Assistance

A hearing loop or sound enhancement headset is available for performances and screenings in the building.
In the main theatre, the hearing loop is available on seats behind and including Row Q in the stalls (in proscenium layout)  and all seats in the circle (in both proscenium and thrust layout).

 

Audio Described screenings and performances

Audio Description is a live commentary, played through headphones, of what is taking place on stage or screen and a description of anything visual, whether it be an entrance or action of a character, a set change or a lighting feature.

 

Audio Described screenings and performances

Captioned screenings and performances have a live transcription of the show’s dialogue and lyrics, as well as a description of any sound effects and music in the play.

 

BSL performances

A BSL interpreter will stand at the side of the stage, interpreting the performance live into British Sign Language

 

Relaxed screenings and performances

A Relaxed screening or performance is a modified version of the show, where loud sound effects are reduced, the house lights are kept up, and other adjustments are made to make a more inclusive and calm atmosphere.
