Access bookings need to be made through the venue's own team.

There's no lift at the Duchess theatre, so every level is reached by stairs. The wheelchair spaces are in the Stalls, which are normally reached by a stair climber, and that stair climber is out of service (checked 25 September 2026). Until it's back, you'd need to transfer into the theatre's evacuation chair. There's no lift.

If you'd planned to use the stair climber, talk to the venue's access team before you book, so they can say whether the evacuation chair will work for you. When it's working, the stair climber is a Domino Zonzini. Its platform is 96.5cm wide and 87.5cm long, footrests aside, with a 400kg limit. Some wheelchair users may need to move into the theatre's manual wheelchair to use it safely.

Whichever you use, come in by the main entrance and arrive at least 45 minutes before the show, so there's time to get you settled.

To access the auditorium there are 22 stairs to the Stalls and 12 stairs to the Dress Circle. There are a further 11 stairs down to the stalls bar. There is a fully adapted unisex toilet in the Stalls. The theatre bars are located in the Stalls, Grand Circle and Balcony. A member of theatre staff will offer assistance purchasing beverages on behalf of customers. Programmes and Ice Creams are available in the auditorium.

The theatre is fitted with a Williams Sound hearing assistance system. Headsets are available on a first come first served basis.

Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome. For comfort we recommend purchasing a seat on the end of a row. Alternatively we provide a dog sitting service for 2 dogs at a time; advance booking is recommended.
